脆弱擬桿菌能分解糖，對膽汁耐受。為類桿菌屬的代表株。革蘭氏陰性桿菌，兩端鈍圓而濃染，中間有不著色部份。在正常情況下,它能維持消化系統(tǒng)平衡和機體抵抗力，是免疫系統(tǒng)的驅(qū)動力，已被應(yīng)用于健康領(lǐng)域。脆弱類桿菌專性厭氧、無芽胞、無動力、直徑為0.5×1.3～1.6μm 。專性厭氧菌，氯化血紅素和20%膽汁可促進其生長。牛心、牛腦液血平皿培養(yǎng)48小時，菌落1～3mm ，圓，微凸，灰白，表面光滑，邊緣整齊，大多不溶血。生化反應(yīng)弱，解糖。解酶反應(yīng)陽性，葡萄糖的終末代謝產(chǎn)物有乙酸和琥珀酸；吲哚不定，耐膽鹽，水解七葉靈。不還原硝酸鹽。產(chǎn)生蘋果酸鹽脫氫酶、谷氨酸脫氫酶、葡萄糖6磷酸脫氫酶（g6pdh）、6磷酸葡萄糖脫氫酶（6pgdh）、細(xì)胞壁粘肽層含有二氨基庚二酸。依據(jù)對鼠李糖、海藻糖，甘露醇發(fā)酵及吲哚試驗可區(qū)別本組菌落。DNA的G C含量為39～48%。本菌主要分布于結(jié)腸和口腔中。
